Video: Ford Tests Mustang Cobra Jet Ahead Of SEMA ‘08 Debut

Last week, Ford Racing took their performance-tuned pony for its first run on the track at the Milan Dragway in Michigan. First engineered in 1968, the 2008 FR500CJ Mustang will hit Las Vegas next month for the 2008 SEMA show to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mustang Cobra Jet. Preliminary speculations and lack of official releases from Ford peg the new Cobra Jet running with a GT500/Romeo 605 engine under the hood, producing 605-horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. To meet NHRA guidelines, however, the ‘08 Mustang Cobra Jet will come factory detuned to produce 400-hp - allowing modded-CRX owners plenty of time to assemble their requisite white flags/change their underwear.
